The Amoeba

Original lyrics penned 1993, © 2004 by Jim Nelson

I wanna glass slide and a microscope

For a cover slip I can only hope

Gotta drop of pond water, my fever's gettin' hotter

Maybe I'll find an amoeba

I studied the parts of the microscope

From eyepiece down to the base, of course

I've practiced with the focus, and all that hocus pocus

Maybe I'll find an amoeba

With a wet-mount slide I started to search on low-oe power

Switched to medium and I studied that drop for at least an hour

Everydayyy, yeah

I don't care the periods I gotta spend

Keep on comin' back time n' time again

With my partner Ron, We saw a diatom

Maybe I'll find an amoeba

Yesterday we saw parameciums

Rotifers acting like comedians

We studied fairy shrimp, till our necks began to crimp

Still haven't found an amoeba

With a wet mount slide I started to search on low-oe power

Switched to medium and I studied that drop for at least an hour

Everydayyy, yeah

Nosepiece moved to high power

Every protozoan there I scoured

I spun diaphragm, the light began to dim

Contrast improved here and nower

I began to feel rather confident

Hopeful now for a glimpse of it

Turned the fine adjustment knob, saw a microscopic blob

Finally I found an amoeba

Finally I found an amoeba

Finally I found an amoeba
