Living Cells

Original lyrics penned 1993, © 2004 by James West Nelson

Tune: "Jingle Bells"

Living cells, living cells. All are much the same.

Oh, what are the organelles within their cell membranes?

Nucleus, chromosome mitochondrion.

Ribosome, and vacuole, Endoe reticulum.

Inside the nucleus, there's lots of DNA

Which makes up chromosomes, that make us look this way

The tiny ribosomes, like Santa's little elves

Turn aminos into pro-teins to make up healthy cells.

The Endopla-as-mic Retic-you-oo-oo-lum

Will transport substances through cytopla-as-um

Mitochondria, like tiny power plants

Turn glucose into ATP that makes us sing and dance.

OHHHH!!!!

Living cells, living cells. All are much the same.

Oh, what are the organelles within their cell membranes?

Nucleus, chromosome mitochondrion.

Ribosome, and vacuole, Endoe reticulum.

Plant cells have cell walls to make their structure right

Inside their chloroplasts make food from the sun's light

Transparent vacuoles, like little storage shelves

Store water, food, and waste products not needed by the cells

All the organelles, work like a fac-toe-ree

To grow and reproduce or store up energy

If it wasn't for our cells, we wouldn't be alive

All living things are made of cells, that isn't any jive

OHHHH!!!!

Living cells, living cells. All are much the same.

Oh, what are the organelles within their cell membranes?

Nucleus, chromosome mitochondrion.

Ribosome, and vacuole, Endoe reticulum
