Human Heart
Original lyrics penned 1993, © 2004 by James West Nelson
Tune: "Are you sleeping? "
Are you beating? Are you beating? Human heart? Human heart?
Tell me what you sound like. Why are you important?
From the start, from the start.
Yes, I'm beating. Yes, I'm beating. Hear me "lup", then I "dup"
I work like a pump, move blood throughout the body.
Mustn't stop, mustn't stop.
Are you beating? Are you beating? Human heart? Human heart?
Why are you divided into separate chambers?
Why are they...kept apart?
I'm divided, in four chambers to prevent, blood mixin'
Blood that's coming in from all parts of the body
Is quite low in oxygen
But the blood that's going out, is quite high in O2
Each and every cell that's found throughout the body
Needs a lot, not a few
Are you breathing? Are you breathing? Human lungs? Human lungs?
Oxygen on inhale, CO2 on exhale
To the heart, the fresh blood runs
I'm so glad my heart is beating, and my lungs are feeling fine
If I'm living healthy, and I'm exercising
They will last a long, long time
