The Atoms Family

Original lyrics penned 1993, © 2004 by Jim Nelson

Tune: " The Addams Family " ©

They're so tiny you can't see 'em

They're made of just two regions

Nucleus and sheh-els

The atoms family

Their parts are subatomic

Three parts are subatomic

The protons and the neutrons

Tine-knee electrons too

Positively charged protons

Identify the substance

Call the number of the protons

The atahh-mic nuh-um-ber

Neutrons can be many

Or neutrons can be few-ew

Neutrons have no charge

All they really add is mass

Electrons are so tiny

There's really nothing to 'em

But their energy is awesome

They move so dog-gone fast

Protons are the plusses

Electrons negati-ive

Their numbers are the sa-ame

Cuz opposites attract

If electrons and the protons

Ever are imbalanced

They form a charged-up ion

Which chemically reacts

Both the protons and the neutrons

When added up together

The number you come up with

We call atomic mass

If the neutrons in an atom are

More numerous than normal

The extra heavy atom is

An eye-eye-so-oh-tope

The compounds all around us

Are made of combinations

Of the elements listed

On the periodic chart

They're so tiny you can't see 'em

They're made of just two regions

Nucleus and valence

The atoms family
